As open enrollment comes to a close, it’s tempting to want to put it behind us as quickly as possible. After all, who doesn’t have other projects to move on to. But while enrollment is still fresh in your mind, take a few minutes to evaluate how it went, in these specific areas:
Communication – Send out a survey to gather employee feedback about your enrollment communication. Ask employees what’s important to them and how they want to receive future information. But don’t stop there. Look at the choices your employees made. Did they respond to your encouragement to consider new options such as high deductible health plans? Did they share open enrollment updates online or were they asking questions on social media?
Benefits Portal – Did your benefits portal meet your employees’ needs – especially your mobile app for employees who use their phones for everything?
Decision Support Tools – How did employees use your decision support tools? Did they have the information they needed to make good decisions?
Enrollment is the beginning – not the end – of your 2017 benefits communication. Now is the time for reminders about what employees need to do next – whether that’s tips on using their benefits or how to access carrier tools. Make sure your employees know how to search online provider directories and drug formularies to get maximum value from their benefits.
Finally, it’s never too early to start planning for the future. Take good notes on what worked well and what you would do differently so you have a strong starting point for next year.
